The American West Trip - 2008

This summer Aidan is planning to capture the strange and weird life in the western states of the US. He will be using the latest in "wind-up car" technology to save gas and the environment.

Global Warming Air Bags

In response to concerns about global warming and the possibility of rising ocean levels Aidan has developed his own solution to help prevent your car from being submerged under the waves. His plan involves equipping every car with his Global Warming Air Bags which will automatically deploy if the car detects a sudden rise in water level.

The Mug Shot Project

This is part of an on-going project to fully engage audiences to have fun in art galleries and to allow them to become part of the actual exhibition itself.

-          The mug shot background (a white board with horizontal lines showing different heights) will be set up in one corner of the gallery.

-          Everyone who turns up for the Opening of the show will have an opportunity to pose for a mug shot. All they have to do is invent a humorous or creative crime. I will have my camera set up to take these portraits.

-          To pose for a mug shot people simply write their name and crime on a black board and stand in front of the mug shot background.

-          Following the Opening the mug shots will be burned onto a DVD and shown on a monitor in the gallery for the remaining duration of the exhibit. This will encourage people to return to the gallery to view themselves and their fellow criminals.

-          These photos will then be posted to the official mug shot web site at www.aidanmoran.com where people can share and download their mug shots.

-          If you missed the Opening you will still be able to pose for a mug shot using your own camera or mobile phone camera.

-          People will be encouraged to email and share their mug shots with their friends, which in turn will increase awareness of the show and for gallery.

Winner of the first Annual Film Speed Competition 2006

Aidan Moran was voted the winner of the first annual Film Speed Competition. The competition was organized by Gallery One in New Haven http://www.onewhitney.com/ . Film Speed is an unusual photography competition. Sort of like a scavenger hunt where you are given a list of topics, a disposable camera and a map of downtown New Haven. You had eight hours to creatively interpret the topics and return your camera to complete your entry. You were given a list of the first 12 topics in the morning, at 4pm everyone met at Bar for Pizza. Then afterwards the remaining 12 topics were handed out and you had until 8pm to complete the project. Some of the topics were determination, dwell, gas, surprise, drink. On Oct 12th all the photographs were processed and hung in gallery were everyone present got to vote on their favorite photos as well as the person who had the best overall interpretation of all 24 topics. The competition was a lot harder than expected since you only had one shot per topic and you were using a disposable camera. But it was a great way to see New Haven and really forced you to look at everything more closely. The gallery is planning to host another competition in the Spring of 2007.  Below are some of the images from the project:
